Eczema Outreach Support (EOS), a charity dedicated to aiding families grappling with eczema, has undergone a significant transition in its operational base. Established in Linlithgow in 2011 by a mother dismayed by the scarcity of assistance available for families contending with eczema, EOS has evolved from a local support group into a nationwide organization catering to over 4000 families across Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, and Wales.
Offering personalized assistance to families navigating the challenges of managing their child’s skin condition, EOS orchestrates gatherings and activities while advocating for enhanced provisions for individuals afflicted by eczema.
After a decade headquartered in Linlithgow’s High Street, EOS has relocated to a new venue within the Linlithgow Partnership Centre, joining forces with Linlithgow Library and Linlithgow Museum in the premises of the former County Buildings.
This move coincides with a transformative period for EOS, marked by the appointment of Suzi Holland as the new CEO in 2023 and a rapid surge in membership.
Reflecting on these changes, Suzi remarked, “There have been significant transformations at EOS in recent years, particularly since the onset of the Covid pandemic. Like all organizations, charities have had to adapt, and we have found success in transitioning some of our activities to virtual platforms and prioritizing the mental well-being of our young members.”
Suzi further emphasized the organization’s commitment to fostering a supportive work environment conducive to maintaining a healthy work-life balance for its team members, many of whom are parents themselves. As a result, EOS has implemented a flexible working policy, accommodating remote work arrangements to accommodate familial responsibilities.
“We have leveraged this relocation to explore avenues for deeper integration within the local community,” Suzi added. “Our team of dedicated local volunteers plays a pivotal role in delivering our services, from crafting welcome packs to assisting with fundraising efforts. Additionally, we have collaborated with Linlithgow Academy to provide volunteering opportunities for students.”
EOS extends its services free of charge to families with children or young individuals affected by eczema, offering tailored support for caregivers alongside a diverse array of events, both virtual and in-person.
The Wilson family, members of EOS since 2019, have found solace in the organization’s support network. Rebecca Wilson, mother to eight-year-old Emily, who has battled eczema since infancy, attested to the invaluable assistance EOS has provided during their arduous journey.
“When Emily was a toddler, her eczema was severe, causing her immense discomfort,” recounted Rebecca. “Discovering EOS was a turning point for us; suddenly, we had a community of people who understood our struggles and provided unwavering support.”
Emily, now on the path to recovery, is expressing her gratitude by participating in the Edinburgh Marathon 5K to raise funds for EOS, a testament to the profound impact the organization has had on their lives.
